On the Developmental of Family Work in Residential Programs
The man who wrote this article was Thom Garfat. He proceeded to talk about how he was a child care worker, and at the time he was working in a residential treatment center in Quebec, and had just come from teaching child care and family work. Much of his past experience has been working with families. Thom had the chance to be the director of the residential center, and was looking forward to integrating family work and residential care. Over the years that Thom has been working he has learned many things that helped him with this transition such as : These are not our children, he's found that people have gotten too attached to the children. The residential facility is not home. Their home is at home, if you make the facility a home thom has found that you have stolen the children from their parents . Families are not enemy. They used to blame the parents for the children's behavior. As a result you were always in a constant battle against the family, instead of working with them. The more you divide work, the more you divide the family. The residential center is a support to the family. If you can also build on what you know is easier than starting over. It's easier to modify
