Macbeth
Shakespeare's Macbeth is one of his most recognized tragedies. Although written long before this time, it is still widely preferred over more modern pieces of literature to impart knowledge on students of the middle school, high school and even the college level. In this tragedy Shakespeare accounts the compelling drama of the brave but flawed Thane, Macbeth. Macbeth is a tragic hero, a person of high rank but unfortunately, with flaws to match. Because of these fatal weaknesses a chain of untimely events is triggered which leads to his eventual downfall. Macbeth's character is developed from the notion presented to him by the three witches with the tangible possibility to become a powerful king. At the beginning of the play Macbeth is portrayed as a trustworthy and loyal hero. The influence of his ambitious wife contoured his vision of greatness and also manipulated his unstable and sensible persona. By the end of the play Macbeth's character has mutated and he has committed a series of devilish acts that cascade out of control. Although the reader is repulsed by Macbeth's change in character he/she cannot help but pity Macbeth in his situation and recognize his flaws and circumstances which pulled him blindly toward his gre
By his own ambition, Macbeth collapsed under pressure. He was incapable of dealing with what he had intended to accomplish. His pants were too big for him. Macbeth had too many weaknesses in his character to follow through with his malicious plan without falling through a hole which he had created himself. In the beginning of the play Macbeth was too unwilling to be part of the evil-doings his wife wished to pursue. This created issues and caused ripples in the flow of the design of the conspiracy to attain the crown and become King. Immediately after the crime had been commited Macbeth returned to Lady Macbeth and rambled - - "One cried 'God bless us!' and 'Amen' the other, as they had seen me with these hangman's hands: list'ning there fear, I could not say 'Amen,' when they did say 'God bless us!'" in this scene Macbeth was driving himself mad. He could not stand the fact that he had just murdered his King. He dwelled on the fact that he could not say "Amen" when the other two men said "God bless us." Lady Macbeth made attempts to calm him and persuade him to finish what he had started but her attempts were in vain and she was left to carry-out the plan herself. Another example of Macbeth's weak character is how easily the Witches were able to induce their wicked ways upon him. By the end of the play Macbeth had turned into blood-thirsty tyrant. He didn't care who got in his way or who had to be sacrificed to get what he wanted. Macbeth even suspected the most insignificant of threats and plotted to abolish them too. "O, full of scorpions is my mind, dear wife! Thou know'st that Banquo, and his Fleance, lives." - - Here Macbeth confesses to Lady Macbeth his eagerness to be rid of Banquo and Fleance.
