An Emergency That Changed My Life Forever The worst day of my life started out to be a normal, run of the mill day. I wish I could say the same for it?s ending. By the end of the day, I would know to never take anything for granted. I wo ke up feeling a little lonely because my daughter was spending the weekend away at grandma?s house. I agreed to baby-sit Rashad, my nine-year-old neighbor, while his dad worked. After dressing my one-year-old son, Gabriel, I decided to back the car out of the garage to try to get the ?wash me? imprint off. The boys were excited about washing the car. Gabriel loved to hold the hose; and Rashad liked to play in the bubbles. Although he was nine, Rashad had a troubled upbringing before his father won custody of him. He had not yet developed any verbal skills; but the big grin on his face spoke volumes. He couldn?t wait to get outside. Knowing my son was a little rambunctious, I told them to stay inside until I pulled the car out and then I would come back for them. ?Be right back,? I told them in my ?Barney? tone of voice.
