Religion: An Arbitrary Experience
The image of God appears in many texts, but more importantly appears inside everyone. Ever person on the planet has a certain outlook on God and although many people have similar views everyone still disagrees because of minuscule details. This combined with every organized religion preaching that they are right has forged this planet, into a bomb that's ready to detonate. I myself am not sure if people ever really have stopped and thought about God (logically), and what it means to them. Think about it, 96% of people on Earth believe in some sort of an all-powerful God. It knows what we all are doing every second of the day. It knows that I typed this essay, and it knows that you are reading it right now. It even knows what the other six billion people on the planet are doing this very second...pretty amazing, huh? Organized religion has contaminated who and what we are for far to long. It closes far to many doors in the mind, which restrains our growth as a species. We are told what to believe, and expected to say nothing, when our faith is changed without our permission. This is not a recent occurrence; it's been going on for thousands of years. will learn a necessary lesson and do better in a future life. This is a point that I am a little divided on. I believe in an after-life, will talk about later, and I also believe in the concept of "old souls"(referring to people who seem naturally wiser, smarter, and more mature at any age) , but I don't believe in forced reincarnation. I think if you want to, you can "take another shot at life." Also, Buddhists avoid all extreme thoughts, including hatred for anything so arbitrary as a religion. I agree with them here, hating people for their religious beliefs, goes against almost every religion. The Ten Commandments say "Do not worship any other strange Gods before me", and since all major religions today are worshipping the same God.... I guess the only reason they hate each other is because they fear what they do not know. Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism, and Islam all have one thing in common. They are all scared of each other. The main reason, as I stated before, is because they do not understand each other, but there is also many issues with money. They are all multi-billion dollar businesses, which are competing for converts. You would think that God wouldn't need money. I understand religious structures of worship needing money to pay the bills, but God is all-powerful, all perfect, all knowing, and all wise, somehow just can't handle money! I believe that George Carlin has many good outlooks on the current state of the Christian church. The following is an excerpt from a 1999 HBO special: Something is wrong here. War, disease, death, destruction, hunger, filth, poverty, torture, crime, corruption, and the Ice Capades. Something is definitely wrong. This is not good work. If this is the best God can do, I am not impressed. Results like these do not belong on the resume of a Supreme Being. This is the kind of shit you'd expect from an office temp with a bad attitude. And just between you and me, in any decently run universe, this guy would've been out on his all-powerful ass a long time ago. And by the way, I say "this guy", because I firmly believe, looking at these results, that if there is a God, it has to be a man. So whether you are the Pope, George Carlin, or just a regular "Joe", remember you have a right as a human being to believe what you feel is right, not what you've been taught, brainwashed, or beaten in to you.
