Gender Stereotypes
A detailed Summary of Gender Stereotypes
Males and Females face gender stereotypes everyday of their lives. As we are brought up into this world we are taught to be unique individuals with our own ideas of how things should be, but society breaks down the uniqueness of each and every one of us and seems to blend us all as one. Emotional roles and ideal looks are some stereotypes that we face today. Even though men and women do have differences between them, we should all act as our own person and be the person we want to be.
Emotional roles play a big part on everyone's lives. Society shows the roles of males and females completely different in these situations. The stereotype that every female takes on in emotional situations is that they are very delicate. Emotional situations supposedly hit women harder than men because they are more sensitive. Women are known to talk with their girlfriends when they are upset because they need that comfort and love. Also, crying. Crying is that one thing that females do to get everything off their chests. With all of these conclusions made on females, society often compares them to somewhat of an "emotional bomb."
The movie "Now and Then" is a perfect example of a female's emotional role in society. It is about a group of girls th

The opposite goes for men. Men are labeled as always denying when something is bothering them. A lot of people in society view men as the people that can't show their emotions by crying or when they are in mourning. For example, if they just got out of a three- year relationship, society sees them as almost like they don't care about it because that is the way they think it has to be. If men get into any kind of fight, for example, a fight over a girl, they are known to be assertive and more straightforward. If they get into a fight with one of their friends, they approach them about it, not anyone else.
Stereotypes still exist today. No matter where you go, there is always a stereotype for someone or something. Two main existing stereotypes that we face everyday are emotional roles and ideal looks. Society pulls us away from being our own person by making everyone bond together as one. Being an individual is your own uniqueness and no one should influence you otherwise. If everyone acted the same all the time there really wouldn't be much point to life. People that show their true self make a benefit by being their own person and becoming a leader in life. Eventually other people will look up to you for you uniqueness and individuality and will follow in your footsteps so they can become leaders themselves.
There are both positive and negative sides to male and females emotional roles. Even though women can be labeled as emotional bombs and tend to bond together more emotionally, it could be a good thing. The close friendships that are developed always last when it is a true friend. There are always up and downs to friendships but would you ever turn away your close ones now? For men, the negatives of showing an emotional side is sometimes sadly, humiliating, but what about all the attention they get from the ladies that think it is so cute that they show their true emotions? I know if I were a man, I could cry all the time just so I could get attention from the opposite sex.
