Ancient Mexico
A detailed Summary of Ancient Mexico
"Ancient Mexico, an overview," by Jaime Litvak King is a book about the history about Mexico. She begins the book with the very beginnings of Mexican civilization and through all the hardships the Indians had to endure with the invasion of Spanish conquistadors and Hernan Cortes.
In my opinion the importance of the history is tremendous. As a native Mexican, I personally was fascinated with the history of my people and my heritage. Being part Aztec, learning the history of the Aztec Indians was the most beneficial to me.
The subject matters of certain chapters in the book were quite interesting. As stated earlier, being part Aztec, the chapters concerning the Aztec Indians were the most influential chapters. At the same time, learning about the other cultures that intermingled with my ancestors was just as exciting. King goes into great detail concerning ancient artifacts that help date the numerous societies that roamed the land. " The Olmec built the first pyramid in Ancient Mexico, so

Based on other readings I have done on the history of Mexico, King's interpretation is very accurate. Her dates and her facts are all on target. The only difference is that most other books focus more on the Olmec cities because they were the founders of the Mexican cultures. For example, Neil Baldwin writes, "The essential unity and crucial interdependence pervading the Mesoamerican community was set in motion by the Olmec, bears of the 'Mother Culture.'"
King is quite objective throughout the entire book. She does seem to focus more on the history of the Aztecs than any other group of culture. I have no problem with her bias because again I would like to learn more about my ancestors. Her bias is explainable in the sense that the Aztecs were the dominant group throughout the history of Mexico, so it is only natural that there would be more written about them than any other culture like the Mayans, or the Olmec.
The book itself is very well organized. It's put in chronological order. She
