In the Rite of spring the score was written for a full orchestra with the extremes of the piccolo, the alto flute and the Cor Anglais. Stravinsky uses large sections, this is mainly brass orientated with eight horns and four tr

In Stravinsky's early ballets many accidentals, accents and acciacatura's are used to add interest to the piece. In this particular piece the techniques used within the brass, woodwind and strings are dissonant harmonies, staccato, legato, accidentals, acciacatura and off beat rhythms. In exception to this the string section uses Pittzacato, Argo, down bowing for consecutive beats and glissandos. The flutes use flutter tonguing and the clarinets in the opening piece playing triplet harmonies in thirds. Mutes are used in the brass section and use of percussion is to keep the orchestra in time.
b. Preparing a live performance of Stravinsky's The Rite of spring would prove difficult because the amount of players needed would be hard to find. I would probably have to hire a professional orchestra to perform because of the difficulty of the piece. The venue would have to be large, I would suggest the Nottingham Concert hall which seats over two thousand people. A big venue would also be needed because of the loud dynamic of the piece w
