WTC Report
September 11th 2001 was a tragic event that many people lived through. Many people also have some interesting stories to tell people about. This paper will tell you about some of those stories from people like firefighters, paramedics, and survivors. On September 11th terrorists hijacked four planes for a cause they believed in. They flew two planes into the World Trade Center (WTC), one into the newly renovated part of the Pentagon, and one crashed in Pennsylvania. That one crashed in Pennsylvania because the passengers of the plane tried to overthrow the hijackers. There was a battle between the passengers and the hijackers and eventually the plane crashed in Pennsylvania. At 8:46 and 9:02 a plane had hit the WTC two towers. One tower stood for 56 minutes and the other for 102 minutes. It took only 12 seconds for them to fall. There were 2,819 people who died in the attacks. 343 of them were firefighters and paramedics. 23 of them were NYPD police officers. There were 37 Port Authority police officers killed. 60 World Trade Center companies lost employees. 1,402 employees died in tower two. 614 employees died in tower one. The ratio of men to women who died is 3:1. The greatest number of people who died was fro
Firefighter John Breen was called to the south tower. One of the firefighters, Ruben Carrera said to loosen their coats so they don't overheat. They were to search the top floor with a few more engines. They took an elevator to the 18th floor and walked up to the pool where they found some landing gear in the Jacuzzi. They walked back down to the 21st floor and waited for the elevator. The elevator was slow so they decided to walk. When they were walking down the stairs they heard a rumble. The building was collapsing. The building was swaying like a ship. He didn't think the whole tower was collapsing, just a part. He heard the floors getting louder and closer. He heard the floors hit each other like dominoes. He then braced for impact but a huge gust of wind knocked him down. There was smoke and debris everywhere. He was coughing and choking. He heard other firefighters coughing so he knew other people survived. They walked down the stairs and met ladder twelve. The sixth floor was blocked by debris so they couldn't go down the stairs anymore. They tied a hose to a hole in the wall and slid down to the fifth floor. There they found five more survivors. They were all walking down the stairs following each other. They were on a patio and were climbing down using curtains. Two firefighters, two civilians, and John were left when the second tower collapsed. He braced for it and said not again. As it came down it got very dark with a cloud of dust. One of the people was around 80 and was starting to move so he grabbed him so he would stay. When the dust cleared he could see the outside. So he started to make his way down an I-beam and many stories of rubble. They were never able to find Ruben. Lieutenant Steve Terulli and Lieutenant John Citarella were called after the second plane hit the tower. They saw six people jump from the north side of the 1st tower. They saw five cars on fire near the south side of tower two. They found out that someone that jumped hit a firefighter on the ground. They went into the hotel lobby and met Deputy Chief Tom Galvin. Then they were ordered to go up to the 90th floor of the south tower. Chief Sheffold asked if it was the 90th floor and then the south tower collapsed right on the hotel. They said it sounded like a train. Lieutenant Terulli curled into a ball but when he got hit he just flattened out. He tried to give out a mayday three or for times. It took about five minutes to get him out. They heard someone else calling for help. Lieutenant Citarella was under a big pile of debris. He started to dig a tunnel through the pipes, sheetrock, insulation, wood, and brickwork. Terulli then took his mask off and put it on John to help him breath. There was a 6x6 I-beam on his leg that would have to be taken off. He then moved the beam about half an inch so John could get out. Citarella kissed Terulli and he said welcome back. They were walking down West Street and then the north tower collapsed. He was knocked under a tow truck because of the force of the blast. Dust
