Video Games
There is a growing phenomenon that threatens our safety every minute. Violent video games are causing our children to be aggressive monsters. If we allow these games to continue, there will be more school shootings and more mad men with weapons. Violent video games cause aggressive behavior. This must be stopped. The violent games cause aggression, are too violent, and are worst than other media because they are interactive. It is a fact that violent games cause aggression. Studies have proved this over and over again. For example one study concentrates on the effects of video games on children's play behavior. The study had two sets of boys; one set had the boys play a violent game and the other set of boys played a game where the boys raced a motorcycle against the clock. When the boys were put in a room together, the boys that played the violent video game were observed as more aggressive than the boys that played the motorcycle game (McCarthy). This means that the violent games played by the boys cause them to become more aggressive. This would be alright if they only played it once, but according to David Welsh, PhD, the more exposure to violent media, the more the person will want to use the media. Therefore th
The factor that pushes the line is that the games are interactive. David Welsh, head of the National Institute on Media and the Family, says that it has a different psychological effect when the person is in the role of the perpetrator rather than the observer. It destroys the line between fantasy and reality. For example the two boys who committed the horrid act at Columbine were both video gamers (Jackson). They choose to solve the problem with a way that is completely unrealistic and unsubstantiated. It is easily connected that playing the violent games they did allowed them to pull the trigger without blinking an eye because they have done it so many times before in video games. The games themselves are basically training the children of the nation to kill. Each game is a simulation causing pain and suffering, playing them repeatedly will cause a further blur between real life violence and the fantasy violence they are accustomed to. Not only that, but the games are becoming more realistic. For example Rainbow Six: Raven Shield is a game that belongs to a new category of games called realistic shooters. These types of games strive for making the player feel like they are actually shooting a real gun. This means that there is simulated recoil and means that the player will become better adjusted to actual guns.
