Shadrack was described to be a handsome young man who was an ex-vietnam veteran who had went crazy after he left the war. Duringthe war with all those crazy things happening, for example seeing a guy get his head blown off and seeing his headless body still running for a second before falling, I believe seeing that would make anyone snap and go crazy. After seeing many horrific sights in the war, the story jumps to Shadrack waking up to find himself laying a hospital bed. He looks around and sees his food laying in a pan right beside begin to think and he suddenly calms down, that is when I think reali

Now it's later on in the story and Shadrack is known to the whole town as that crazy man. The people in the town seen him as no threat at all but they didn't take him lightly at all. So this mean they kept their distance from him, especially around his self proclaimed holiday called "National Suicide Day". To him this was a day where anybody could kill their selves or anybody else without the risk of getting in any type of trouble. At first people were scared but as time rolled around people began to ease up and joke about it, but they still took it serouisly. Shadrack started this day in 1919 and from that day forth it solidifies his crazy identity. Every year he comes out with his cowbell and hangman rope to let everyone know that it was suicide day. From that day any thing that fell on that day was put off or considered bad. So in a way Shadrack changed the community but not for the good but for silliness of the community. So things begin to change the Bottom of Medallion, Ohio because of the impact that Shadrack and his crazy ideas had on the people.
