The Affects of Social Backgrounds on SocietyThe heroic epic has been a favorite plot for writers since Babylonian times. The stories all consist of similar aspects. There is a hero who is the main character and the protagonist in the story. The plot focuses on the hero and his/her struggle to overcome a greater force which most likely will be a form of government, a government official or divine entities. The hero will either overcome his opponents or die due to a tragic flaw that he/she possesses. In the end, there is a moral to the story which is intended to educate the reader or audience. Frankenstein, 1984 and Hamlet all share these similarities but are also independently distinctive. Epics are very common because people enjoy reading about men and women who are human, but seem to possess a nature which propels them against greater odds for better or for worse. In 1984 and Hamlet, we are presented with two main characters who are being oppressed by their own governments.
