In "My Last Duchess," the speaker of this poem is a person with high social standing. He is a duke of Ferrara. He is a proud man only interest in rank and order. He believes his "gift of a nine hundred year old name" should be honored above all else. He believes that he shoul

The speaker dislikes the duchess for having a heart "too soon made glad," "too easily impressed."
