Cinderella vs Daniel
The short story Cinderella by Charles Perrault, and the movie Ever After by Andy Tennant, are both different versions of Cinderella. There are approximately 500 versions of the Cinderella story in circulation, making it the most famous fairy tale in the world. Charles Perrault's version of Cinderella is almost like the standard story, which we all have heard about when we were young. It is magical and enchanting, but at the same time it is very superficial, with a "fairy godmother" and a "magic pumpkin". However, Tennant's version is more realistic, there is no magical gourd and no stroke of midnight, but there is a husband prince, an evil stepmother and, naturally, a pretty girl down in her luck. The "fairy godmother" does not pop up from the sky in Ever After, but instead is replaced with Leonardo Da Vinic. One of the wonderful things about Ever After is its clever blend of historical accuracy and fantasy. The most interesting differences about Cinderella and Danielle is, Cinderella is usually about a passive woman waiting for a strong, handsome prince to rescue her, until now. Ever After shows us the viewer that there are many other sides to Cinderella's character. She is
n't so fragile and gentle, she is no longer the victim, she doesn't fall in love at first sight compared to Charles Perrault's Cinderella. Thus, completes the comparison of both Cinderellas. On one hand we hand a sweet fragile young lady, and in the other we have a smart witted young lady. They might be they same person, but in many ways the are very different. Even though they are very different they both accomplish the same thing. They did get the prince, didn't they? Tennant's Cinderella/ Danielle is a unique 16th century woman, that can appear to be tomboyish, but at the same time she is blessed with inner and outer beauty. She has more than enough charm to steal the prince's heart. In the short story Cinderella is equally as beautiful as Danielle is, but somehow she appears to be more delicate and sweeter than Danielle is. "Cinderella raised them up and kissed them and said she forgave them with all her heart and wanted them only always to love her" Perrault p. 4.a.
