No One's a Mystery

Imagine driving home from a hard day of work, expecting to get home to your husband, who always gets home before you, hugging and kissing you as you walk through the door. Instead, you arrive home to find it very unusual that he is not yet home. About an hour later, he finally comes home and uses the excuse that he was stuck in traffic. Being the understanding wife you are, you blow it off and give him that hug and kiss you had been waiting for. Meanwhile, your husband feels smooth because he knows inside that he was, in fact not stuck in traffic, but out with another woman. "No One's a Mystery," by Elizabeth Tallent, portrays the message that things are not always as they seem, and sometimes the things we do not yet know or realize are the things that will affect us the most.

Elizabeth Tallents, "No One's a Mystery" focuses mainly on two characters. Jack, who is a married man, and a young eighteen year old girl. On this girls eighteenth birthday Jack gives


Mind games; they are played on people more times than not. It's the ones who don't realize it until it's too late who suffer the most. In Jack's case, both the girl and his wife are suffering in the sense that his wife has no clue what is going on and the girl is too naive to realize the reality of the situation. Again, things are not always as they seem, and sometimes the things we do not yet know or realize are the things that will affect us the most.
