In Derrida's quote, he's asking you if it's okay to act moral and responsible if you have the sense of duty and responsibility. Derrida does not believe that it is moral for a person to act moral and responsible because it is already programmed into you and you feel a duty to act moral and responsible. It is not your free will to act in those ways. You were basically trained since birth to act in these ways, and any other way that you act is immoral and irresponsible.
Basically, I think Derrida says that you have no control over how you act. From birth, your parents raise you to be a child that respects others and their opinions, to be moral and choose the right actions. No one raises his or her kid to be a screw up and to be a complete fool. A paradox is a seemingly contradictory statement that may nonetheless be true. Derrida's paradox i
Derrida is saying that doing duty for the sake of doing duty is disrespectful. In some sense, it is. If you volunteer at a soup kitchen for service hours, paste on a fake smile and pretend your enjoying it, is totally disrespectful. People will look at you and think, "Wow. What a great person! Giving up their time and volunteering for the homeless and less fortunate, I wish I was more like him/her." Your not anything they believe you might be. You're a fake and a lie, which is disrespecting to everyone around you. I agree with doing a duty for duty sake is truly disrespectful. Don't just do duty to respect the law because you are breaking the law. It's a counteractive statement, but it is true. Do duty for other because you want to, not just because you feel you are forced to.
s his statement that you cannot act morally and responsibly.
