CHARLES SIMIC's BUG DOCTOR- An Interpretation

My overall perception of Simic's poetry is that he is a fun guy. At times he is much more dramatic than I anticipated his poetry to be. I found myself still thinking about his poetry hours after I read it and slowly understanding some of it. He is much more difficult to analyze than our dear friend Larkin but alas change is good. His first poem I chose, "Bug Doctor", because I felt I could add to Mr. Panza's interpretations intelligently. The second I chose merely because I had a different interpretation than our fair teacher. I think that I have a provable meaning to the poem "Taking a Breather" that I intend to share and hopefully provoke someone into writing me. J

Overall I liked Charles Simic's writings. In a dream world I think that it would have been fascinating to go drinking with Larkin and Simic. Maybe Simic could have helped Larkin to see that life is what you make of it and why not make it a good time?

The play on language is everywhere in this amusing poem. An example is the description of the way a mosquito handles everyday life. If someone is struggling with something it is often described as "beating your wings" (9) against the situation. The mosquito is this case actually has wings and is beating them furiously to escape torment.
