The language in The Taming of the Shrew, Richard III and Venus and Adonis is a derivate that gives each of the main characters. The main characters in each of these works utilize the language to gain control in different ways. In Taming of the Shrew, Petruchio extraordinary power of language is due in part to his genius and boldness to tame Kate and master control of her. Similarly in Richard III the importance of language is used to achieve political power and Venus with her knowledge utilize language to try to charm Adonis. Each of theses characters is out for their personal gain of control and power .

Taming of the Shrew, we met Kate a young woman who always speaks her mind and is not afaraid to be rude and aggressive when she needs to be. She wants a husband and is courted by Petruchio against her will. The plot and theme is built around the language used by the main character Petruchio to tame Kate's tongue The language becomes an important part of the courtship.

Petruchio is new in the town of Pauda, he is unorthodox in every manner. He is rude, a bully and has complete disregards for all forms of this polite mannered society. For example, he announces immediately upon his arrival to his friend Hortensio "I come to

wive it wealthy in Padua; / if wealthy then happily in Pauda,". After hearing the stories of Katherina and the account of her good wealth he is eager to meet her. Upon meeting the father, Petruchio speaks loudly and openly with superiorty this gives him power and respect from his peers. He is bold and is not afraid to say what is on his mind (2.1.126-127) "Then tell me, if I get your daughter 's love, what dowry shall I have with her to wife" This is yet another example of Petruchio boldness in his language. The taming continues at his house . Petruchio never displays any doubt when he speaks to her. His language is crude and she must agree with him or suffer the consequences. Petruchio goes to alarming lengths to impose his mastery on Kate, keeping her tired and hungry for some time after their marriage, but he also insists on framing this treatment in a language of love, indicating his eagerness for Kate to adapt to her rightful, socially appointed place and his willingness to make their marriage a happy one.

In Richard III , Richard claims that his deformity is the cause of his wicked ways, he seems to be manipulating us for sympathy, just as he manipulates the other characters throughout the play.
