Depression
A detailed Summary of Depression
I've never really had any challenges in my life before last year. That sounds hard to believe, but it's true; I've had it suprisingly easy. The past twelve months, though, have made up for all the challenges I've never had to face.
Depression is such a cruel punishment. There are no fevers or rashes to send people scurrying in concern. No one else, no matter how many years of school they've been through and how many dimplomas they have on their office wall, can ever feel the pain and the self-hate that is tearing you apart inside. Everyone wants to try, though. People hear the word "depression" and figure that since they have felt a little sad at some point in their lives, they are experts, which is totally ridiculous.
When I got to the end of my rapidly fraying rope, I decided there was only one thing left to do. Hospitilization for a psychiatric disorder means crossing over a line that can never be er

ased; it stays on your life's "report card" forever. But when you've overdosed and slit your wrists, and can think of nothing but dying, there aren't many other options.
When I woke up the morning after I had arrived, I, being the curious person I am, decided to examine the chart hanging at the end of my bed. It said "Clinically Depressive; Self Mutilator; Suicidal". That is something I'll never quite understand. People say "I have diabetes," not "I am diabetes." But call someone a "schizophrenic" or a "manic depressive" and . It reduces a human to being a mental diagnosis and makes us believe that the words tell us who the person is, rather than telling us how that person suffers.
Of course, I never let many people know about all this. I did what I like to refer to as "putting on my mask". I faked it. In retrospect, I'm a pretty good actress to have pulled it off. Only my parents and my doctors knew
