Colonial Times

Imagine you were living in a society in which individuals were being persecuted and judged solely on their religious beliefs, what type of a culture would this be? Today we are fortunate enough to have essential humanitarian rights, which guarantee us freedom and liberty for all. As well we are respected for our beliefs regarding our religious convictions and aren't judged by them. During the 1600 many people were being singled out because of these beliefs they held. During these times the times were regarded as religious and angry. There was always controversy between different religions. This controversy is what led to the establishment of the English colonies. To better understand the motivations behind the establishment of the colonies we need to further examine English history. King Henry the VIII, as we may recall was the father of Queen Elizabeth, King Henry tossed the Catholic Church out of England long before Jamestown got started. Since King Henry wanted to get married multiple times the Pope didn't approve of it. Thus. King Henry wanted to establish his own church, consequently he founded the Church of England. There were two groups during this time that were especially exasperated at the situa


In summation the New England colonies were founded for religious reason and not economical reasons. The economics came secondly after they had achieved religious toleration. Under the Church of England they were unable to practice thus coming to America posed a good alternative one in which they could freely govern themselves as well practice their own religions. If it weren't for the colonists who centuries ago landed on the New England coast we might not be were we are today and history might have taken a different toll. We have learned many things from them and because of them their ideals have been carried down to make the United States in which we live now.

Anyone who takes a trip for religious purposes is a pilgrim. The Separatists would have take under a new identity: the Pilgrims. They were the first of many, many boats loads of pilgrims who would come to America in search of religious toleration. America then posed to be the best solution despite the early ordeals of Jamestown. The year the Pilgrims made their journey or Pilgrimage was in 1620, the boat they took towards freedom was called the Mayflower. Half of the people traveling were Saints and the others were called strangers because they were just seeking an adventure. When they first sight American land, it was Cape cod. They had planned on going to Virginia but they were exhausted from the 66-day trip. When they arrived they drew up a compact nam
