Death of the Salesman
In the play "The Death of a Salesman" the main character of the play is Willy Loman. Willy Loman is a salesman and he thinks that being a salesman is the great achievement of his life. Even when he got fired from the job he is still thinks of himself as a salesman. Also Willy Loman has problems with his son Biff. As Willy grew older, he has trouble distinguishing between the past and present, between illusion and reality, and is often lost in flashbacks in most of the story. Willy Loman is a 60 years old man with a wife named Linda and two sons named Biff and Happy. He traveled between states every week for the past thirty years tries to sale his company's products. At Willy Loman earlier life, his brother Ben offered him a chance to have a great adventure and get rich at the same time by exploring Alaska. Willy Loman refuses to go with his brother and tell him he wanted to be a salesman. He considered salesman is the greatest job a man can ever have. People will respect and love him. He got that idea by looking at an eighty-four year's old man named Dave Singlemen who died as a salesman. Willy thought he could make a living by just goes to any city or just pick up the phone just like Dave. At one
Thought out Willy's later life he always thought his sons hated him. His son Happy even tell the girl he was with that he is not his father but only "Just a guy!" Willy try's to kill himself but never got the wills to finish it. He tried crashing his car couple times. At end of the play, he had a big fight with his son Biff. Biff told Willy that he turns out to what he is today is all because of Willy and he is sick of Willy think of him as a salesman all the time. Biff cried to Willy for understanding. At the moment Willy realized that his son loved him. Willy died peacefully after that. At the end although not many people showed up at Willy Loman's funeral, he still got the respect of his family. He spends his whole life try to find the respect that he need from others. But at the end fail to realize it was within his family all along. point of his life he did make over hundred dollars a week which was considered to be a lot of money during the thirty's. We know that by when he told Howard "Now pay attention. Your father-in 1928 I had a big year. I averaged a hundred and seventy dollars a week in commissions. (page 82)" But as he got older, he produced less and less sales and finally couldn't pay for all the family's expenses any more. Because he worked for the company for the past thirty years, he started to think that his boss Howard will let him stay and work in New York without going to the road. So Willy goes to Howard and asks if he could stay in the city. When Willy went to Howard's Office, Howard ignored Willy by telling Willy how great is his new toy, an audio recorder
