To Kill A Mockingbird

A detailed Summary of To Kill A Mockingbird

There is a lot of prejudice in To Kill A Mockingbird. The disrespect and dislike that whites and blacks have for each other in this period of time in the book was common throughout the south. There was a lot of violence and lying all the time between whites and blacks. You can see this throughout the whole book between Bob Ewell and his dislike of Atticus that comes to involve Scout and Jem. Atticus does not want Scout and Jem to grow up and be like the rest of the people and take part in the disrespect and dislike of the black people. Atticus try's to show Scout and Jem that the violence between whites and blacks can be stopped. Atticus was to nice to the people who disliked blacks, Bob Ewell is the best example of who has the most disrespect and dislike of blacks in the story. Atticus hopes that putting up with the blacks and also with the whites that are cause most of the problems can help to solve the racial problem in Maycomb.

The main theme in To Kill A Mockingbird was the disrespect and dislike people showed each other by the rumors and ideas that were passed on from generation to generation. These ideas that the people of Maycomb have of each other are not just disrespectful but also the

People such as Boo Radley, Dolphus Raymond and Maudi Atkinson are sort of the outcasts in Maycomb they do not fit in and are looked at like they are not part of the town. Dolphus Raymond is considered to be an outcast, because he is a white man who chooses to live with a black woman, and who has children. Boo Radley is another example of a person who is looked at as an outcast in the book. Boo Radley is seen as a figure of mystery and fear to both Scout and Jem. Boo Radley was locked in the house by his father, for after getting arrested and stealing a vehicle. Boo Radley is a monster in the minds of the children. The children learn that when he was thirty-three years old he stabbed his father in the leg with a pair of scissors and then was locked in the basement by his father. The Radleys are regarded as outcasts because they never talk with the townspeople, or attend church even for Mrs. Radley's funeral. The doors on the Radley house are always kept shut even when it is hot and every other house in the town has just there screen doors open.

Scout and Jems treatment of Boo Radley was a turning point in the whole story. It showed that all it takes is just two kids to realize that what had been going on was wrong. The main reason that certain people still look at blacks the same way they did in the story is because of the generations before them and what they did. I think that this was a good story in showing what happened back then and how it has changed. I hope that someone who reads this story feels like I did and try's to c
