The Pig Man

The main characters in the Pigman are John, Lorraine and the Pigman. When you first read any book, the author starts describing the characters in the smallest details as possible so you can discover their personalities little by little. This is more interesting for the reader and keeps you involved in the book. This was also true in the Pigman. Even though all the characters in the book were interesting in their own way, I have decided to do my essay on Lorraine, because she seems to have grown and changed in character more during the course of the story.

In the beginning of the book, while John was blowing up toilets, smoking, drinking and using bad language, Lorraine was the more mature of the two. She tried to get John to stop smoking showing him the dangers of it. She is a little shy and introverted. She


Lorraine's character changes a few times during the story. In the beginning it changes after she meets John. John tells her that she looks nice and there is nothing wrong with her that needs changing. After that Lorraine starts to feel more self-confident. She starts to wear Ben Franklin sunglasses because everyone looks at her when she wears them. Before she would never have worn them because she was afraid to have people look at her. Her character changes once again after meeting the pigman. She saw how he enjoyed life so much and little things made him happy. She wished her mother was more like him, wished that her mother knew how to have a little fun for a change. When she felt sad, she would think of the pigman and then she would feel happy again. The pigman took them shopping one day at a very expensive
