Like Father Like Son

Just imagine yourself in the army. You are in the training of boot camp and you always have a drill sergeant telling you what to do, when to do it, and how to do it. No matter what you do, they always have something to complain to you about. The sergeants never let you do what you want to do either. So you feel like you have to get away. Away from the complaining and the "ownership". This is what Tom Wingfield in The Glass Menagerie feels like everyday living with his mother, Amanda Wingfield, and his sister, Laura Wingfield. And getting away from all the problems will be Tom's main objective.

Tom Wingfield is a "regular" man that has a job at a warehouse called, "The Continental Shoemakers"(664). Tom works at the warehouse to support his mother and sister by paying the rent and other bills. But Tom hates working at the warehouse. He has a passion for adventure. For example, almost every night Tom goes to the movies. He just has a huge imagination. Tom wants to go see the world, go have fun, and live on his own without "nagging" being directed towards him everyday. Tom just wants to take a chance in life and see if he can be successful in something he enjoys doing.

Tom is a responsible man. He works at the ware

In conclusion, Tom is a responsible, selfish, but imagitive drunk. He never enjoyed his life, but sacrifices a lot to enjoy the rest of his life. He follows his dad's footsteps as Tom states, "I'm like my father. The bastard son of a bastard!"(680).
