Communication Feedback paper
The topic our group was assigned was Sports Communication. Being my concentration for my major of Communications at Marist, I believed this would be a simple assignment. The first objective our group had to undertake was deciding upon a sub-topic. This was no easy task. Our first choice was sports betting/gambling. It was next to impossible to find a scholarly journal article on this topic. Even regular periodical articles were difficult to find omitting any substantial research. Most articles included betting tips or results from Super Bowls and World Series'. Needless to say, our group quickly transferred subtopics, this time to Sports Broadcasting. This is what we went with to make our presentation. This topic too, I believed would be easy. Not so. I did learn much about the topic, what went into sports broadcasting, some laws and regulations concerning broadcasts and broadcasters, and also the development of sports networks. I read articles of how Monday Night Football has a certain mystique about it, something that draws fans, and glues them to their TV sets into and past the midnight hour. From the very beginning, our group took equal shares in responsibilities. This included one of the very first activities when were asked in class to build a free-standing structure out of pipe cleaners and straws. However, I have been on sports teams, and active members in clubs my entire life. Being in a group is nothing new for me. But as far as scholastically, this was the most extensive group project I have ever been assigned to partake in. When it comes to schoolwork I am more of a loner, I don't feel comfortable leaving my grade in someone else's hands. I would much rather just do it myself. However, this was not an option here. So on the eve of our group's presentation I am feeling extremely prepared. And I have to trust that my group mates are as well. But having worked with them for the past several weeks, I have gotten to know four other people that otherwise I may not have ever known. So at the least I have made four new friends, and at the best I have four new friends who will share an 'A' grade with me. After all these years of group projects I finally feel comfortable working in a group setting. This assignment presented us with
