A detailed Summary of Solomon Northup


Solomon Northup was born in New York in July of 1808. Solomon's father was a slave until his master granted him his freedom in his will. On Christmas day 1829, Solomon married Anne Hampton. He and his wife made a life for themselves at the Eagle Tavern by cooking, fiddling and farming. During the day he worked at a hotel and by night he was a violinist. In March 1834, they moved to Saratoga Springs. During there time in Saratoga, Anne gave birth to three children- Elizabeth, Margaret, and Alonzo. Although Solomon was free because of his father, he would not remain free. One night he woke up and realized that he was in William's Slave Pen. The proof of ownership on Solomon was fake.
