Persian War

The Persian Gulf War was just one in a string of wars in and near the region. On September 1980, Iraq launched a major war against Iran. This war went on until1988, and proved one of the deadliest of the century. The war had over a million casualties. And in many ways, this war set the stage for Iraq's invasion of Kuwait in 1990. As the war went on, Iraq installed a puppet government, which consists of nine hand picked military officers whose origin is not altogether clear. And this puppet government replaced the ruling Kuwaiti al-Sabah family. Then shortly after the United Nations Security Council and the Arab League immediately condemned the Iraqi invasion. "On august 8 1990 Iraq annexed Kuwait as it's nineteenth province as if this were a common practice in the world politics, and by august 24, had ordered all counties to close their embassies in Kuwait."(Yetiv 11) Later a large international force gathered in Saudi Arabia. The United States sent more than 400,000 troops, and more than 200,000 additional troops came from Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom, France, Kuwait and o
