In telling the story, Leon Uris side tracks quite often to tell a history of a person he just introduced or how something came to be. In doing this, Uris is building a foundation of knowledge and strengthening the core of the plot. The point of view only changes for dialogue between the characters so as to hear some of the story from their views.
