The modern day United States prides itself on being a country where everyone is believed to be treated equal. Over the years the problem of slavery and segregation has been taken care of but still in this modern day and age the country or the lawmakers of this country have found a way to keep the poor people in their place and let the rich and famous people live however they want to live. Basically all men are create equally unless you have no money- but if you do have money you are above the law.

Several articles in the newspaper and pieces on the news have caught my attention lately because of the harsh penalties that lawmakers ar making for possessing drugs that are usually thought of as "lower class" drugs such as crack and he


One example of this injustice is the fact that lawmaker are making or have passed a law where any person caught using, selling , and buying crack will get jailed for four years even it it is their first offense. While this is a good way to keep it off the streets it is rather unfair because the primary group of people that use crack are going to be in the lower class of people being that crack is considered a lower class drug. One article i read had a statement made by Joseph Caliano who was the former director of the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University saying that " almost all welfare recipients are drug and alcohol abusers and addicts, often suffering form mental illness and other ailments." When statement ar made like this by people that are experts in the field it makes it hard for the people that he is talking about to dispel these rumors- which makes it
