Lord of the Flies-comparison essay
A detailed Summary of Lord of the Flies-comparison essay
In "Lord of the Flies" by William Golding the characters share many similarities and differences. There is the oldest boy, Ralph, who is the leader that likes to have order and assemblies. Then there is Jack, who is extremely controlling and does not follow any of Ralph's rules. Ralph expresses aspects somewhat of a politician on the island, whereas Jack expresses aspects of wanting control and acting savage like on the island.
Ralph would be known as a twelve-year-old boy that is willing to compromise. He is the oldest one of the group and the chosen leader of the boys. Ralph has power and order of everyone. Jack also has power, and the two boys realize that. When Ralph, Jack, and Simon reached the top of the mountain on the first day, the two of them knew that they had control of everyone on the island. Ralph says "all ours," (Golding 30) when they notice that the island is uninhabited. This makes the two boys feel that they have power and leadership. They also know that they can boss the 'littluns' around and have everything their way. A major difference between the two boys is that Ralph is somewhat of a politi

In this novel Ralph symbolizes hope for being rescued. He believes that his father, who is in the Navy, will come to save them all. Ralph says, "my father's in the Navy... and sooner or later a ship will put in here. It might even be Daddy's ship. So you see, sooner or later, we shall be rescued," (Golding 37). Ralph represents organization also. He uses the conch shell and calls assemblies to make orders for things to be done. Whenever an assembly is needed, Ralph says, "The thing is: we need and assembly," (Golding 78). Jack symbolizes evil and savage nature. He viciously kills a pig and when he finds out that Sam and Eric saw the "beastie", Jack was determined to go right away and not come back until that was killed also.
Jack would be known as a boy who is greedy and wants power. Jack wants to be in control of everything and he wants everyone to agree with him and do what he says or decides. Ralph and Jack have another similarity, they act like the adults on the island and are not feared by things that the littluns are afraid of. They both do not believe in a "beastie" and they are not having nightmares because th
