For or Agianst Parenting Classes

Scared, screaming in pain, doctors and nurses scrambling in and out of the room, monitors beeping every few minutes and a family member standing next to the bed providing support, this all describes a woman about to give birth to a little bundle of joy. Not every woman experiences giving birth in the same way but all births end with a little boy or girl. Although new parents are inexperienced parenting classed should not be mandatory. There are many other resources available to assist new parents with a newborn. Some of these resources include books, support groups and the internet.

There are so many books out on the market for expecting parents and new parents. During the first doctors visit the expecting mother receives many books explaining to her the process of being pregnant, giving birth and raising a child. These are some of the most informational books an expecting mother could read. A book that tops the best seller's lists world wide is called "What to Expect When You Are Expecting" written by Arlene Eisenbe


Support groups are another resource that could replace mandatory parenting classes. Groups can range form family and friends to a local YMCA, even church groups. Family and friends can be vary helpful, giving advice, telling childhood stories even giving information about themselves when they were new parents. Local YMCA's have different support groups including Lamaze class, which helps the expecting mother prepare for childbirth without the aspect of parenting being intertwined. There is also a group called M.O.P.S. which stands for mothers of preschoolers. This group gives support to mothers and children who are transitioning from home to preschool. Churches can offer support to new parents by praying for them. New parents can attend Sunday mass and maybe hear a sermon on parenting that could give them good advice. Many new parents do not have the time for groups, for the there are computers.
