First I'm going too discuss drugs in professional sports. More and more athletes are getting suspended from the league or fined because of using performance-enhancing drugs. One incident that just happened was Carolina Panthers defensive end Julius Peppers failed a urine test and has been suspended from the NFL. He was suspended for using a banned dietary supplement. It used to be steroids that were the main performance enhancing drug that got athletes suspended. But now professional leagues are banning dietary supplements because of the danger that they put high performance athletes in. There are cases in which the athlete sometimes is taking medicine too feel better and gets in trouble because of what's in the medicine. Another incident was at the 2000 summer Olympic games. Andreea Raducan had won a gold medal at the games but a couple of days later it was taken away from her b

ecause she had taken an over-the-counter cold medication that contained a substance banned by the IOC. This is a case that the athlete was just taking cold medicine too feel better but she got in trouble. It's not just the professional athletes that take the performance enhancing but college students that go to workout and even high school athletes have been caught taking steroids or dietary substances.

After all of the article and observations I came too the conclusion that the underlying belief about overconformity is true. Athletes feel the pressure to continue playing when they get hurt. They feel this pressure because of job security or because they were always taught to play through the injuries. There is also tons of overconformity with performance-enhancing drugs. Athletes feel the need to perform better or to lose weight too make the team. Unfortunately this will be a tough trend to break because most of these kids get the ideas embedded in them at a young age.
