Comparison essay (Mcdonalds and a Diner)

The other day my friend Adam and I walked over to the McDonalds on North Avenue to pick up some quick dinner. I sat down and examined my surroundings, taking notes on all the little things going on around me. The following night we went to the Mirage Diner, across from Loftus Hall, and did the same thing. Comparing the two is kind of hard because I barely found anything in common between them. One thing I noticed was that both places were very clean, which I hadn't expected. Normally, most McDonalds are dirty and gross; they're usually infested with rats and cockroaches. Besides the point at which the little boy dropped his coke, the floor was spotless. The Diner was the same way, there weren't any pieces of food on the floor or any sort of animal running around, and it was nicely carpeted and kept very cle


Based on the two examples and the similarity between them, I've concluded that a comparison is a way to relate two objects. In a comparison, you have two or more specific things that you associate with each other. Through the relationship we are able to decide which we prefer, based on what we've learned from evaluating them. Comparing is just another form of sharing similarities; it allows the reader to determine how the two can be associated with each other and at the same time gives a brief idea of how they are different
