Legal or Illegal Professions?

„h Criteria: This paper will examine a topic discussed in class in much greater detail. The paper is to be 7-10 pages in length, typed in Times New Roman, double-spaced and in 12 font. At least 7 outside sources must be used. No sources can be taken from the Internet. Any late papers will receive a deduction of one letter grade.

Legal or Illegal WorkK Which is Worth It?

According to Merriam Webster's Dictionary, work can be defined as, "activity in which one exerts strength or faculties to do or perform something". One may then ponder does illegal practices such as prostitution or the selling of illegal drugs constitute work and does the risk of participating in illegal activities out way the premium wages one may earn?

Through the analylization of selling drugs one may come to understand that drug dealers are "entrepreneurs who are strongly motivated by the huge amounts of money that can be made in that business" according to A. V. Sloan. He goes on to explain, "the amounts [of money] are so much bigger than what they might make in most other jobs that they are willing to take the risk of being sent to jail." Applying the theory that one must receive just compensation for work completed in order to achieve job satisf

In analyzing the dealing of drugs, when taking in to consideration the roles of the workplace, one can again see the qualification of work. There is the dealer / buyer relationship as well as the dealer/ supplier relationship. The dealer is dealing with both entities and therefore has a dual role. There are also unwritten rules, which exist that again classify the profession as work. Those who first get started go through a period of being watched by their superiors, which in turn cause their production to be higher.

"He's the best there is. In fact, he's the only one there is! He's Ace Ventura:

The entire purpose behind stating the preview was that those people who decided to view this movie knew because of Jim Carey's background with In Living Color (late-night comedy sit-com) that the movie would be funny as well as unrealistic. The particular scene in the movie that I am choosing to show in class is at the conclusion of the movie. Ace has captured the culprit behind kidnapping Dan Marino and the mascot. At the football game Ventura has an encounter with the team's mascot by the water cooler and they begin to fight. All along the entire stadium is viewing their beloved mascot being attacked by Ventura.

Pet Detective. Jim Carey (In Living Color) is on the case to find Miami Dolphin's missing mascot and quarterback Dan Marino. He goes eyeball to eyeball with a man-eating shark, stakes out the Miami Dolphins and woos and wows the ladies. Whether he's undercover, under fire or underwater, he always get this manKor beast!"

In conclusion, I'd like end with a comment from Gilbert Stamper, from Lusby, Md., (Center for Media Literacy) addressing the issue of parents controlling their children's access to the Net. "It is my job and my wife's job to instill in our children the ethical and moral values we wanted them to have. That is our job, and we would no more abdicate that responsibility to government than we would abdicate our choice of where to eat dinner." This statement sums up exactly what American families need to do to make sure that media violence is not taking a negative affect on their children and today's youth as a whole.

I find these characteristics to be true in movies with more of a realistic setting and serious undertones. However there is always and exception to the rule!

Comedies seem to place violence under another light. First, I must say that South Park is quit disturbing to me. Not only does the character Kenny always seem to die but also profanity seems to be associated with each character! This program is aired at 10:30 p.m., with an explicit disclaimer-advising viewer discretion. In this particular episode the people of South Park where rioting and in the mist of things Kenny was killed by the face of death, literally! I just really have a problem with elementary school students' experiencing adult-like problems at such a young age. Issues such as sexually transmitted diseases, pregnancy (Soc 30) profanity, and death are things that a 5-year-old child shouldn't have to experience. Let alone in a cartoon! South Park has the ability to disguise adult issues behind comedy in a cartoon format.
