Karl Marx is one of today's most renowned economists. He was born on May 5th, 1818 in a small town called Trier, located in Germany. Karl Marx was born into a Jewish family. His father's name was Heinrich and his mothers name was Henrietta. His father was a lawyer and his mother was devoted to caring for her children. Marx was the second child of eight, however many of the children died. Marx was his father's favorite. He started high school in 1830 and was an average student. His best subjects were German and history. His dedication to political science first began in high school. By the time Marx was graduating high school, he was already sure of what his future goals would be. At the age of seventeen, he was a student at Bonn University. He studied mythology of Greek and Rome as well as the history of art. His father wanted him to study law but Marx became side tracked with other interest, other students, drinking, and fighting.
