Abortion
As the school bus rumbled past me, an angry high school student yelled obscenities at me from his open window. I was standing in front of a high school at 7 a.m. with an active pro-life family, holding posters showing aborted fetuses and signs saying, "Abortion Kills Children." The family had decided to go to area high schools and display their signs to high school students. Educating people about what abortion really is is important to me, so I had offered to go with them. Over the next two weeks, I went with them to several high schools and a few other places. Many people swore at us and "gave us the finger." Some people gave us a thumbs up as they drove by. And at least one lady was weeping as she drove by us. I didn't get up early and stand in the cold because I like to do that. I did it because I believe that every baby is a gift created and wanted by God. But abortions destroy that precious gift, causing great pain both for the mother and for the developing baby.
An abortion is a devastating experience, both for the mother, who has killed her own child, and who feels extreme guilt, and for the baby, who has lost its life very early in a horribly painful death. And that's what I want the high school students, and everyone else, to know. An abortion also hurts the mother. Why was one lady weeping as she drove by our signs? Possibly our signs had brought back guilty memories of an abortion she herself had had. The British Medical Journal, after reviewing psychological research on abortion, concluded that "almost all those [whose pregnancies were] terminated felt guilt and depression" for at least a brief period. A survey of psychiatric and psychological studies done by the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists concluded, "The incidence of serious, permanent psychiatric aftermath [of abortion] is variously reported as between 9 and 59%." Even if a low figure like 10% is taken, this would mean that 160,000 women per year suffer "serious" and "permanent" p
