During slavery, slaves were not allowed to own houses, money or businesses because they were property themselves. After reading Harriet Jacobs' "Incident in the Life of a Slave Girl, Seven Years Concealed" I found that her family was very privileged to be slaves.

Jacobs' job while being a slave was to be the play mate of a little white girl. She was treated the same way the little girl was treated, they wore the same
