Television advertising has visual appeal, and can be used to convey a mood or image for a brand as exciting and interesting, which in fact, may be dull and boring. Because of their flashy depiction and catchy slogans, products are made out to be better than what they are. Advertisements are a way for corporations to get their message across of why they are better than everyone else. This fierce competition follows the notion of "Survival of the fittest". Because of this, human beings of all types are bombarded with advertisements constantly. The mantra of advertisements is that products can fill the void in ones life. They make people think that, even though they may have good lives, they can make it better by purchasing excessive or extravagant items. The goal of an advertiser is to plant a seed in peoples' minds. Once the seed is planted, it keeps on growing and growing until they do something about it.

Sex sells. This is one of the most common and popular conception that has been around for decades. Sex-based commercials, such as those based on vehicles and clothes, convey that men will look ostentatiously manly and women extremely sexy if they purchase those products. These products are not necessarily harmful, but sex can be used to sell even products like alcohol and cigarettes. Advertisements based on these convey that consuming or purchasing such an item will make one irresistible to the opposite sex. They do this by showing scantily clad women and muscular men surrounding the person owning the product. Who wouldn't want to buy a product that would, according to advertisements, make one appealing to the opposite sex?

Advertisers use celebrities to portray their products. Television advertisements contain an influx of celebrities selling their products. Celebrities and sex make a deadly combination. Advertisers know that people worship celebrities, and that they are a role model to the masses. Celebrities make people believe that if a product is good for them, then it is good for everybody.
