Catcher in the Rye
Setting- this real life story takes place in the nineteen-thirties in the slums of Limerick, Ireland. Characters- Franky McCourt, is the main character in this novel. He is the cautious quiet type who has brown hair wears rags for clothes and boots that a bum wouldn't even touch. Angela Sheenan is Frank's mother she is a quiet but stern woman with dark brown hair and brown eye's. Over the last couple of years, she has lost three children due to mal-nourishment and disease. Malachy McCourt is Frank's father who hasn't had a job steady for as long as they can remember and whenever he does get a job, he drinks his wages. Malachy McCourt Jr. is Frank's youngest brother who has survived the harsh conditions along with Frank. Aunt Aggie Frank's aunt is tough on the outside but has a soft spot on the inside and can be very stricked sometimes. Plot-This story begins with Angela Sheenan as a young girl at home with her brothers and her brothers during the depression. When she grew up, she met her soon to be husband Malachy McCourt. Shortly
after they were married, they moved to Brooklyn, New York for work. Then after getting no work they moved back to Limerick where they were to raise their children. At first, they had four children Franky, Malachy, Mikie, and Johnny until Mikie and Johnny died, only a few months later, they got over it and not soon after they got over it they had another kid which survived. They grew up and Franky became old enough to get a job with the Coal Company. A few weeks after his eye's became so inflamed he had to spend two months in the hospital. He finally got his eyesight back and went back to school and was two semesters behind. So they put him back into grade three and he stayed in grade three for about two weeks and then was asked to write a report and they were so impressed by his writing they put him back into grade five with the rest of his friends. Mean while he remained top of his class.
