The Effects of TV Violence on America's Youth For years many have disputed over whether or not violent acts on television influence children. Television violence without a doubt effects children. When children are constantly viewing violence on almost every channel they watch it makes it hard to argue that there are no damaging effects. The reason is because children have not yet matured enough to fully distinguish between what is of the real world and what is of the television world. Also, children adapt to what they see around them, and if violence is what is all around them they will adapt to that. Children can start to believe that violence is admissible in our society, when really, our society is trying exterminate the violence that makes its presence known in our country. "The screen portrays an angry, hostile world and television is no longer reflecting the world, but the world is starting to reflect television" (Scully, 1993). Webster's Dictionary defines violence as "rough or injurious physical force, action or treatment, unjust or unwanted exertion of force or power."
