"A Lesson Before Dying" Story that tells life like it was. The movie is directed by Joseph Sargent and based on a book by Ernest J. Gaines about a man awaiting his execution in 1948 Louisiana. It's a story about being in the wrong place at the wrong time. An innocent man is sentence to die and his family wants him to die like a man with dignity, because they gave up the hope of justice for a black Young man Jefferson (Mekhi Phifer) was going fishing, when two friends driving by gave him a ride. They stopped at a local store to buy some liquor. They realized that they don't have enough money and white owner didn't want to grant them a store credit. The two black men refused to leave and one of them started walking toward the man. The white owner pulled out a gun killing him, while the other pulled out a gun and shot the owner who fired back killing him. Jefferson was the only
