A detailed Summary of The Iliad
Achilles and Hector are both great warriors, but Hector is the more heroic. According to Encarta Encyclopedia, heroic means "Nobly or selflessly brave." Based on this definition, Hector is definitely more heroic than Achilles. Hector fights selflessly for his people, even to the end. For example, even when Hector learns that the collective will of the gods is against him, he keeps fighting. Achilles, when wronged by Agamemnon, stops fighting because of personal issues. If Achilles was truly selfless, he would not let his pride and anger get in the way of serving his people.
