Field
A detailed Summary of Field
As I decided upon a place to do my field experience, I decided that there was no better place to do so then at my high school. Seneca Valley High School is where I attended my secondary education. My major is secondary education in the area of social science so I decided that I would attend a 12th grade history class taught by one of my former teachers Mr. Mike Latera. The class that he teaches is American History.
The first thing that I observed as I entered the classroom was how it was physically organized. Strangely to me his desk was set in the back of the room with all of the desks facing away from it. The desks were arranged in five rows with six desks in each row. All the rows faced the front of the room where the chalkboard reached across the room with the left side of the room being all tinted windows with a view of trees and the football field. At the back of the room there was a bookcase full of books ranging from the Civil War, to Vietnam and many other Historical books.

This being a class full of seniors in high school they were permitted to dismiss themselves from class to use the restroom with the use of a hallway pass which was placed at the front of the room on the edge of the chalkboard. When a student did leave the classroom it did not stop or affect his teaching process in any way. Towards the end of the class the day that I was present, a review sheet was distributed to the students, to help them study for a test that they were having the next week. Mr. Latera stated that the day before the test would be a day of review, with a review game, where they would have opportunities to earn extra credit on the test. This was an attempt I believe to encourage early studying. (Process - Items 1,2,3,4,5,10)
The content of the lesson that was taught was the Great Depression. Really the way that it was taught is they were supposed to read the chapter on the Great Depression the night before class and Mr. Latera was going to lecture on it. That's what he did. He lectured on the great depression using notes and also referring to sections in the book that the students were supposed to have read. As the he lectured he asked the students questions on the things that they were
