Slave Reperations
Slavery Reparations is paying the decedents of a slave money because there ancestors were slaves. There are many who are for and many who are against slave reparations. I for one am against slave reparations. For the dependents of black slaves to make demands for special privileges, compensation, and apologies from current Americans (who had nothing to do with slavery) is an ugly moral inversion that makes white Americans guilty because of their skin color (Tracinski). The fact that I am white doesn't mean that I owe something to a black person. Also even if you can trace back to a slave owner, why would you make that slave owners decedent pay a black person when they had nothing to do with it or were even alive back then? Not only are the slaves from that long ago dead but so are the slave owners. Who is the money going to come from? I also know that this same problem has gone on with the Jews from the holocaust and for many other groups. Nothing has been done about that, so where do we start for slave reparations? I am not racist but I would just rather worry about today in American than yesterday in America. How has the decedents of the slaves been affected by the fact that there ance
The trade of African people involved three continents: Africa, Europe, and the Americas. The Portuguese led the way when they landed in West Africa in 1415 and began the trade of human flesh. The Spanish, Dutch, English, French, German and Belgians who later joined them. In 1884/1885 these same European powers carved up Africa like a turkey. (Richmond) The people who are for it have arguments that the slaves weren't even treated like humans and were punished for every wrong move almost like a dog ("Reparations"). Slaves are owed something for pain and hardships that they endured ("Reparations"). My question to that is that If the slaves themselves weren't treated like humans then why didn't we pay them when they were actually alive? I understand where both sides are coming from I am just for moving on then looking back. I just feel that as an American we have way too many thoughts going though our minds now a days and way to many other subjects that have happened in the last 10 years to deal with. I know that some people are angry by the fact that their ancestors were put through hardships but so were many other ancestors of white people. I know that my ancestors were put through hardships and I am no
