An Experience to Remember
A detailed Summary of An Experience to Remember
I stand in the middle of a studio full of people, yet the whole room is utterly engulfed in silence. Everyone is absorbed in me, waiting for me to make my move. My hands are hung beside my body, and my feet are firmly situated side by side on the concrete floor. All that I can heed is the breath flowing through my motionless body as last minute thoughts drift through my head. Suddenly a thunderous voice breaks through the blanket of hush that lingers, "Kathryn, just concentrate and become! Feel it and be it!" My head is bustling more now, and the words seem to jumble and rearrange themselves. Inside I am panicking but outside I am calm and reserved, no one can see the true turmoil incased within. And then the monster emerges, "3... 2... 1..." A diminutive red light illuminates, commanding me to enter the other world.
A rush scurries all the way through my veins, piercing my entire body as I step over the threshold. I am no longer Kathryn, no longer the blonde haired, green eyed, high school student. I have no physical possessions anymore; my parents and even my friends no longer exist but have diminished into particles of dust that float away with a sudden breeze. People are so engulfed in the lives of others, and the television is the one basic way to satisfy that human hunger. Who really cares if it is not real, people are looking for a way to ignore their own problems only to focus on others'. The world depends on the film community, looking up to the movie and film stars as role models, and even learning about our own history from the numerous movies that line the shelves of the local Hollywood Video store. This obsession makes my dream and joy an even more attainable career because of the high demand, increasing everyday.
Two weeks passed, without the ringing of a telephone from the casting directors at "The New Guy", until one Saturday morning when I found out the news. It was not a real part that I had been cast in, but a part of a typical student, an extra on the set. Being an extra turned out to be one of the most valuable experiences I have ever been involved in.
My mind was mixed up between focusing on the bright yellow stripes that were pasted on the pavement or the directions pasted in eight
