Greek Mythology
Greek mythology is a body of stories and myths developed by ancient Greeks concerning their gods and goddesses. Greek mythology is a wide variety of narrative material. Some of the myths are used purely for entertainment purposes. Other myths are are more serious and used to explain the religion of the early Greeks. Today Greek mythology is known as the oldest form of religion in Greece. Greek mythology was the basic belief of the early Greeks. Early Greece was polytheistic which meant they worshipped many gods like the many gods on mount Olympus(Graves 34). The king of all of the Greek gods was Zeus. Zeus was the most important of all gods although he had not always held the title as the king of the gods. Zeus stole his position from the former king his father Coronus king of the titans and the universe who ironically stole his title as king from his own father Uranus . Uranus and Rhea were the two first gods. Now the titans (ruled by king Coronus ) were the rulers of Greece and the entire universe before the Olympians( Ruled by king Zeus). The titans were god of supreme strength and stature. Coronus the original King wanted to be sure that he would reign as king forever so he killed all of his children by swallowing them
The Orthodox church was the church that claimed direct decent from Christ. This was the belief of Greece and they still believe this today. This is considered the major sector of historic Christianity. People believed in a different Greek deity for everything. there were gods of wisdom fire water and hate etc.. The people needed to believe there was some type of explanation to phenomenal events. They also needed answers for things that occurred in everyday life. From the smallest to the largest event they prayed to a god. And there were more than enough to pray to because they numbered over 1000. Hercules was hated by most of the other gods and they tried to step in his way while he was on a course to do right . Every corner he turned he was tempted to do evil. whole but the mother of the future king Zeus saved baby Zeus from his father and raised him on Mount Ida until he was strong enough to come back and face his father. Zeus used his mighty thunderbolt as his ultimate weapon of destruction. He ruled over the heavens with an iron fist. He also used the mighty eagle as his messenger. The mountains and trees were sacred to Zeus. People worshipped him on the highest mountain top they could climb. They tried to make him give up but he did not and in the end he was rewarded for his goodness with a spot on Mount . Olympus when he died he then became a full god. All of his efforts had finally paid off. Today he is the most written about god or Demi gods. The fall of Greek Mythology gave way to Christianity .
