How important are cellular phones in today's society? Cellular phones are becoming very important to most people. A few years ago it was very unusual to see someone walking down the street with a portable phone. Now it is like nothing. Anyone can have one and many companies give them away for free. Although I believe nothing is free in this world. What I am wondering is, are people concerned about the disadvantages that cellular phones may bring to their health? Or, do people not care or believe that a negative effect can happen? Believe it or not, cellular phones are affecting human beings. "Larry King conducted a laboratory study on human blood that found genetic damage from exposure to microwaves of the type that cell phones emit." (Fortune magazine July 5, 1999. Page 40.) Are people willing to learn more about it, or do they just want to ignore the possibility that these little mobiles phone are capable of destroying their health? If you think about this statement, it may well be true. Your microwave emits radiation in order to cook your food. So when we use a cellular phone, the antenna receives radiation at all times in order to work. The problem is that most people do not know that they are receiving radiation all day while they are using it.
