A detailed Summary of SSRIs


My article dealt with the use of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). SSRIs were introduced in the 1980s and have become one of the most abundantly prescribed drugs. Between the years of 1991 and 2000, prescriptions for SSRIs saw an increase of 740%. SSRIs are used to treat a wide variety of psychiatric disorders, such as depression, anxiety, phobias, eating disorders, and obsessive-compulsive disorder. Even though SSRIs are commonly prescribed drugs, there is a potential adverse effect that can occur from the use of the drugs called serotonin syndrome (Jiwanla & Weitzel 43). One case of th
