Family Education
Company Support for Community EducationIn this paper we will discuss how implementing different education release policies within our company would allow each employee "time off" for their children as well as the communities educational needs. Our focus within this paper will be to evaluate what the benefits and implications of such a policy adopted by our company would be. We will discuss the benefits and implications on our service levels and our finances. We will also discuss how this policy will benefit the community in general. In further discussion, we will evaluate how our company plans to implement this type of a policy. Our analysis will determine if a "time off" policy would be well received. It will also be important to determine how or if the employees will use or misuse such a policy if we want it to be successful. We hope to conclude that the foreseeable effects of having a policy like this for employees will be beneficial for the moral of the employees and the company. When defining home and community education Susan Thurman, a family and consumer education major from Brigham Young University indicates, "Home and Family Education is an integrative profession which provides a holistic approach to the study of
If each parent were allowed to attend more school functions with their children, they would be more aware of how the schools were doing, and how their children were doing. They could find ways to help with improvement. If only one parent were in a classroom once a week it would help the teachers to accomplish an assignment or a project with those students, as well as give a sense of pride to the student who's parent took the time to help them in their school class. If this policy is implemented in our organization, will the policy take away from or add to each employee's production? Also, we needed to evaluate how this policy will affect the other employee's workload when someone leaves. One down side to a policy like this is it could have the complete opposite effect you were looking for and could possibly increase unscheduled employee time off. It could be abused, which in turn would cause a decrease in productivity and an increase in unscheduled time off. This is why we need to focus on implementation and the Human Resource management cost. We need to be able to implement this new process with no increase to our HR department. We also did a survey within our own company to find out what our employees thought of implementing this policy. A striking 100% of employees responded with an overwhelming positive response. Most employees, 90% in fact, thought this should be a paid benefit. Some of the questions asked, were if employees would be willing to cover or help their co-workers out in their absence. Again, we received an overwhelming response that they would be willing to cover their fellow co-workers by answering their calls or filling in when needed. We believe that this education release policy would help the employee be more focused on their work during the day. When we surveyed the employees who were parents in our company, they felt that during the day they were continuously wondering how the science lab was going for their son that day, or if their daughter was successful in her first speech. With the ability to leave for a small amount of time without losing pay, a parent would be able to focus on the task at hand. Knowing they would have the freedom to attend the school event, help their child if necessary, and to come back to work focused would make all the difference to many employees. Overall, we concluded and believe that such a program will be beneficial due to the fact the employees would be happier and they would be more productive. "Without forced accountability, public schools will never improve." Most people do not have the choice of private schooling and unfortunately live where both parents are full time in the work force. This leaves an insufficient amount of time that a parent can actually take an active role in their children's education. Thus in recent years with out the proper supervision, the public education system has deteriorated. Parents deserve the right to have their children succeed in school. If that requires parents to take a
