A Narrative paper
The world was shattered by the cowardly attack on the United States on Tuesday, September 11, 2001. On this dreadful day, thousands of lives were taken. During this period of bombing against the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, there was a response of anger, fear, and pain. This was an attack against innocent men, women, children, and people of different races, beliefs, and religions. It was not simply an attack against America but an attack against civilized society. These terrorists attempted to destroy the symbols of America; the nations economic and military power. Terrorists tried to strike fear into the heart of America and its people; however, the attacks made the American people come together as a whole nation. Furthermore, these attacks on America made the whole world come together as one. I was in class when the bombing happened, and the commotion outside my classroom was intense. I could hear people saying, " I need to call my Grandma." I thought somebody had died or that something was happening in the campus. When our class was over, I went to see my professor and asked him what was going on. He told me to find a television and watch it, so I did. There i
One of my neighbors was crying, and holding her child close to her, "My dear God, please forgive me for all the wrongs I have done," she said. My aunt ran out the house shouting, " Oh my goodness, come inside the house. I should not have sent you to the store. I thought it was just a storm." Finally, the driver was about a few blocks away from my house, so I tapped the roof of the truck and pointed my house. He nodded, and then he stopped. Apparently, I was about nine feet from my house when I saw lightning strike two houses adjacent to mine. I ducked down in the mud, covered my head, and hit my face on a brick. The first time I feared was on July 15, 1992 in Olongapo City, Philippines, when Mt Pinatubo erupted. It was 9:00 in the morning, and my Aunt asked me to go to the store to get some groceries. On that morning, it was raining heavily, and the city appeared as though it was midnight. It was completely dark because the power had been shut down all over the city, and the clouds turned very dark. The ground started shaking, and lightning was striking every thirty seconds. At that instant, I was inside the store paying for the groceries I had bought. When I went outside the store, I had my umbrella with me. I opened it and started walking on the sidewalk. People were all over the place running and screaming. As I continued down the street, my umbrella was getting heavier, and I kept wondering why, for I thought we were just having a storm. I reached out and found out that the rain was actually mud and stones. The wind blew powerfully and took my umbrella soaring into the dark. I was soaking wet, and the darkness blinded me so much that I could not even see where I was heading. My entire family and my neighbors were crying and praying the whole night, "Our Father, who are in heaven, hollowed by thy name, thy kingdom come..." I remembered my cousin's prayer. Then, he continued, "Mt. Pinatubo is erupting." My knees trembled as it became clear to me that I was in grave danger.
