Children and TV Violence

Children tend to watch three to four hours of television a day, which can average out to be 28 hours a week. This amount is more time then they spend in school in an average week. All this time spent in front of the television allows the media to influence children as much as their parents do. The shows don't show the bad parts of crime, such as prison. The parents should be responsible for teaching their children right from wrong. Can't just blame the creators of programs for the influence on children. The parents also have to be involved in the child's life, to help him to realize what is really happening.

Another website, the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry website, tells what many studies have concluded. Hundreds of studies have found that children may: become "immune" to the horror of violence, gradually accept violence as a way to solve problems, imitate the violence they observe on television, and identify with certain characters, victims and/or victimizers. These consequences may occur even if the family atmosphere shows no signs of violence. Also, the website states that
